Ready To Go - A car named Dave - Gallery

Day One - Day two - Day Three - Day Four - Day Five - The End!

Thoughts from the team - Chris - Adrian - Dan - Al

Waking up in Sarnen was very nice, the sound of the cow bells, the fresh air and superb views made it seem a shame not to be staying for a few more days.

We all had to meet in a car park that nobody could find so the village was besieged by old bangers driving around in circles, with the shrugging of shoulders and the look of dispair from many drivers.

Eventually the location was found, the official rally photograph was taken and we then headed over the Swiss Alps to see what these £100 bangers were really made off!

With no less than 6 passes to go over including the Oberalp pass and the Brunig pass it was going to be a gruelling test for "Dave", long windy roads but it proved no problem the temperature gauge teasingly went to the half way mark the fan kicked in and "Dave plodded on", with gentle engine braking on the way down to save the brakes we headed up and over the Swiss Alps.

The days challenge to earn points was to find six land marks take a photo and spot the difference between that and the supplied photo, being the brains of the outfit Dan and I got stuck in to that one which kept us out of trouble for at least 15 minutes!

At one such photo opportunity place, we got blocked in on a dirt track while everyone was trying to take photos, but we had a cunning plan and found a dirt track to take us back on to the main road. With horn beeping and lights flashing, Al demonstrated our smart way out, by driving on the wrong side of the road.

The only person to notice this little error was Dan and he's not a driver! 30 seconds later and we would have had a rather unsuspecting moped rider impaled on the duck. Being Adults we did not take the mickey out of Al, oh yes we did that was it!

It was a long day despite it only being 190 miles, we cruised through St Moritz and proved that unlike the locals you do not need an £80,000 car to get noticed!

The drive up the mountain into Aprica was a bit hairy as it was starting to get dark and for some unknown reason "Dave" headlights were a bit dim, the roads were narrow and John the sat Nav decided not to direct us!
We arrived in Aprica which is very much a skiing resort so it was pretty dead. Lucky for us the local police were on hand to direct us to our hotel (it was at this point I decided to demonstrate my driving on the wrong side of the road skills. Ooops)

The Hotel Residence Biancaneve. Or was it the bates motel? a very spooky looking place with more security than fort knox! The proprieters were a mother and son, I think it was Mr and Mrs Dave they were very nice and made us feel welcome and despite Als fears that we would not make it through the night it was a very comfortable hotel.

We took a trip to the official rally hotel to hand the days challenge in only to find the Marshals arguing over a water fight and being petty over a couple of the guys having a laugh? so it was back to our hotel to get some rest for day three.!
